Roman Villa
The Newt in Somerset, Great Britain
At the villa, the sound is designed to provide an emotional experience. Through fictitious storytelling, visitors are transported back to the year 351, witnessing a Roman birthday party up close. Guided by the voice of the housekeeper, they explore the residential and utility rooms, the thermal bath, and the garden, all appearing as if the residents have just stepped out. Both the villa and its furnishings have been authentically recreated and staged to appear in current use. The housekeeper shares anecdotes about the inhabitants and commands the slaves in Latin and Celtic. With the interactive sound system, visitors navigate the villa without the need for visual signage, enhancing the immersive experience. Not only tailored for English-speaking visitors, this immersive sensory experience is also accessible to speakers of Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and Afrikaans.
